Tess followed Pat and Soleil into the arena to walk the course before her class started. She had been expecting something like the hunter fences she had shown and practiced over, but the wide vary of colourful jumps were much higher and scary-looking.
The three of them walked over to the first fence, nerves starting to get ahold of Tess.
“You’ll be going over that red vertical first,” Pat began, “and then if I were you, I’d take the trip around the yellow gate to your rollback.”
Soleil and Pat went on with tips and shortcuts, until they reached the stone wall, easily the tallest fence there.
“How-- high is this course?” Tess whispered.
“You’ll save some time if you go between the--” Soleil stopped talking and turned to the small girl. “Oh, no more than 2’6. They just look big.”
Pat opened her mouth to say something, then shut it again as Tess told herself to relax.

Later on, while Tess and Heza maneuvered around the course, Pat turned to Soleil as the watched from the stands.
“You know those fences are almost 3 feet, right?”
Soleil nodded slowly, her eyes never straying from the girl and pony in the ring.
“Yeah... but look at them, they’re doing just fine.”

Cute pony. Disproportional rider. Derp.
